.- . -.... --.- --.Welcome to my ham radio page. AE6QG is my amateur radio operator and station callsign, assigned by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which gives me the priviledge to operate on various parts of the radio spectrum assigned for the amateur radio service on a primary and secondary basis. These frequencies include high frequency (HF), very high frequency (VHF), ultra high frequency (UHF), and higher frequencies. Each frequency area has its own propogation characteristics, making this hobby a rewarding challenge for finding other operators to talk to, and helps us become prepared for emergency communications.
I passed my first exams in December 2003 to get a General class license (which includes the infamous morse code test), at which point my first callsign was KG6TGW. I passed the last test in April 2004 to attain Extra class priviledges, and qualified for a shorter 2x2 callsign and opted for the new systematic callsign of AE6QG. The first letters in the callsign are known as the 'prefix', the number is the region number (6 is California), and the last letters are the 'suffix'.
This page is simple right now, but I plan to post more information here, such as tips on how to become an amateur operator, and activities I participate in. In the meantime, there are some helpful links on the left column to learn more about the hobby.
